I was looking for something between a blazer and an overshirt and this is it. The handwoven texture gives it character, the fit is true to size and it has already softened after a couple of washes. I'm happy with Sammy and supporting the weavers...

TIMELESS STYLE, REFINED

The Sammy takes its cue from Il Conte, the stand-collar chore jacket. It sits between a casual and formal jacket: relaxed, easy to layer and smart enough for many occasions. Two jetted pockets are trimmed with a band. A gently rounded front hem softens the line. It works over a tee on the weekend or over a crisp shirt for dinner.

The Details

Considered, point by point.

  1. The Tangaliya Fabric

    The Tangaliya Fabric

Woven by hand by the Dangasia community of Gujarat, Tangaliya has tiny raised dots that form a pattern in the weave itself. The dots are made by wrapping extra thread around the warp as the cloth is woven, so no printing or embroidery is involved. Each shirt carries its own scattering of diamonds, lines and triangles, with some dots picked out in a warm golden thread. The fabric is breathable, textured and soft against the skin, and it gets better with every wash.
  2. Single-Button Barrel Cuff with Sleeve Placket

Single-Button Barrel Cuff with Sleeve Placket

The sleeves end in a shirt-style barrel cuff that fastens with one mother of pearl button, with a small placket above it. The opening lets you slip your hand through easily and roll the sleeve up when you want a relaxed look. It's a casual shirt detail on a tailored jacket and a big part of what gives the Sammy its easy, dressed down feel.
  3. Single Back Vent

    Single Back Vent

A single centre vent runs up the back hem of the jacket. It opens as you sit, stride or reach so the jacket moves with you instead of pulling across the hips. It also keeps the back hanging smooth and clean when you're standing. It's a classic tailoring detail that makes the jacket comfortable for a full day.
  4. Stand Collar with button

    Stand Collar with button

The collar stands upright without folding over, giving a sharp, tailored neckline with no tie needed. It frames the face cleanly and keeps the look polished when fastened. Worn open, it still looks smart. Inside, a printed lining peeks out at the collar, a hidden pop of colour that adds character each time you put it on.
  5. Il Conte Meets Bandhgala

    Il Conte Meets Bandhgala

The Sammy is a soft, contemporary jacket with a clean, structured line and a gently rounded front hem. The front carries a scattering of Tangaliya diamonds, lines and triangles, with golden accents catching the light. Two jetted pockets are finished with a band of Tangaliya dots, so even the small details carry the handwoven craft.

This garment is made with

Kala Cotton

Kala cotton is an old, native cotton variety grown in Kutch, Gujarat, using traditional, rain-fed farming. It needs no chemical fertilisers, no pesticides and very little water. It is naturally resilient to Kutch's dry climate, and it has been grown there for centuries. Its slightly coarse fibre gives fabrics a pleasing texture and makes them breathable, durable and soft over time. By choosing Kala cotton, you support a pure, home-grown crop, sustainable farming, and the weavers and farmers who keep this heritage alive.
